Beijing University of Chinese
Medicine
Founded
in 1956, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine
(BUCM) is one of the earliest established
institutions of tertiary education in Traditional
Chinese Medicine (TCM) in the People's Republic of
China. It is the only
university of Traditional Chinese Medicine founded
and supported by the State Administration of
Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Ministries of
Health and Education.
At
present, the University consists of the following
schools and departments: School of Preclinical
Medicine, School of Chinese Materia Medica, School
of Acupuncture, Moxibustion and Medical Massage (Tui
Na), School of Management, School of Nursing, School
of Humanities and Social Sciences, 3 Schools of
Clinical Medicine, School of Continuing Studies,
School of Distance Education, School
for International Students, and the Department of
Chinese Medicine for students of Taiwan, Hong Kong
and Macao. The university also has 4 affiliated
hospitals and 4 teaching hospitals with a total of
3,250 beds.
BUCM has a well established and renowned teaching faculty, emphasizing
on high educational standards for
traditional Chinese medicine. Over the last 54
years, BUCM has successfully trained over 300,000
domestic TCM professionals and 13,000 overseas
professionals from 87 countries and regions. It is
among the first TCM institutions that established
PhD programs and post-doctoral research stations,
with three post-doctorate stations in the city of
Beijing.
In recent years, the university has also established over 40
cooperative projects with institutions and
organizations in 22 countries and regions, including
some well-known universities such as
Harvard
University (USA), Middlesex University
(UK), Sydney
University (Australia), and
Nanyang
Technological University
(Singapore).
