Dongzhimen hospital was founded in 1958 as an affiliated hospital to Beijing University of Chinese Medicine. With more that 4,600 daily outpatient visits, Dongzhimen Hospital remains to be one of the largest traditional Chinese medical teaching hospitals. Since opening in 1958, Dongzhimen Hospital has been affiliated with the State administration of TCM and provides a major research centre for TCM and integration of Traditional and Western medicine.

Today, Dongzhimen Hospital is fully equipped with 27 clinical departments, 7 medical departments, 15 inpatient wards, 3 intensive care units and 574 beds.
